Some interesting nuggets of information that gives the story behind each song, how the situation triggered a melody or an event inspired the lyrics. Some things spring up during the recording sessions and are an outcome of shear spontaneous. It may not be a big deal, but as a composer every song/creation has a back story.
This song happened when I was trying to just doodle on the piano, to find some progression. I found a 6 Chord loop, and decided to repeat it with the lead. The intention was to make an instrumental track, with flute as the lead tune. I did that and it coincidentally was in the same meter that “Shravan Sarr was composed in. So I just kept the 2.5 minutes of instrumental track and pre-fixed it to the song. It blended very well.
Parth (Singer) has done a great job harmonizing the vocals and adding a different dimension to the entire song.
This was the very 1st song that I created after which I thought of compiling this album. The song is written by Dr. Suresh Bhruguwar, father of my friend and by Sr. at Cybage Siftware – Prachi Bhruguwar. Dr. Bhruguwar is a writer and a poet, who published a book called “Nirmohi” in 2008. I was on the look for some new lyrics and very casually I asked Prachi, If I could compose one of her father’s poem? Although I composed it after a few years, it gave me an idea to compile all my earlier compositions and convert them into an album.
The song is written by a renowned Marathi Poet “Kavi Grace” Its from one of his book which was published at least 25 years back. This was one of my very early compositions, as early as 1995, and recorded it on a cassette deck recorder at my friends (Abhiram’s) place. He was one of the few people who encouraged me to peruse my passion in music. I could use only 2 stanzas as I was not able to figure out the 3rd one. Could not compose it.
My younger brother "Hrushikesh Rao" has composed this song. In 2008, he came up wiht the tune while on a bike ride, and then continued to compose a full song out of it. His friend Rahul wrote the lyrics based on the tune Hrushikesh had come up with. I really admire this composition and also enjoyed it while we were recording. As usual we did a lot of improvisation on the fly, worked out various vocal harmonies and the outcome was very pleasant.
The song is written by a friend (a hostel mate at IIT Powai. I did not know him well, but the poem he wrote was published in our hostel magazine. It described the down side of urban life. Probably he came for a rural area, and was trying to express his perception of a life in a metro.
Reading the lyrics, I thought that the song if sung by Kishor Kumar would sound very peculiar/unique. I composed it the way Kishor Kumar would have sung it. I explained the voice modulation to Parth in order to get that effect, and Parth being an excellent singer managed to grasp exactly what I wanted and rendered this song beautifully.
Since 2012, I started this project, with re-arranging my old compositions, and finished this task in 2016. When I started to record the vocals for my completed songs, I just realized that it’s been a long time since I composed anything. I wanted to challenge myself and see what I can come up with if I composed a song in today's date. Hence this song.
When I decided that I will compose a fresh poem, I did not want to waste any time in hunting for good lyrics. So I had this book that my mother gave me some 20 years back, written by renowned poetess, "Shanta Shelke", and I was sure that I would not have to look for long. Within 10 minutes after I opened this book, I selected this poem
It was a team building workshop in Lonavla at Hotel Fariyas. Around 15 – 20 people from our Philips Design India Branch, participating along with a Dutch instructor and our branch head Mr. Panwalkar. We had a day planned with a lot of activities demonstrating how to be a good team and work together effectively and efficiently. It was good fun and a good experience which helped us get the right perspective towards office ethics and code of conduct as well.
We were done a bit early than scheduled so had an hour or so in hand to spend. Anton – the instructor asked us if we could write an inspirational song about our team. So Mr Panwalkar, Unmesha and Aditya wrote a few lines in around 20 minutes, and we did not stop at that. Sandeep, Karma and I, we composed those lines to make this short team song which I recorded on a small mp3 player. Kept that recording for almost 10 years and created a jingle out of it as a part of my album.
